As news broke in the late morning hours of Nov. 7 that Joe Biden secured a win in the 2020 presidential election, New York erupted in a cacophony of honking horns, ringing bells, clanking pots and pans and spontaneous cheering. The energy was palpable and for many, it seemed, the day had all the trappings of a public holiday. I spent some time chatting with people around the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park on their reactions to the news. Their responses can be found below.
